O Nanak, the Lord is All-pervading everywhere, amongst all. He knows the qualities and the condition of all. ||4||7||

In plain words

Again and again I turn to You for shelter — please, in Your kindness, give me the Sangat.

Nanak says: the One is everywhere, filling everything, already knowing exactly what every heart needs. Nothing about me is hidden or misunderstood.

The shelter you keep seeking is already everywhere, and it already knows you completely.
The deeper layer

This closing is a prayer for shelter, and a reminder that the One already knows every heart.

Saran saran saran means "shelter, shelter, shelter." Saying it three times is like knocking again and again, humbly, on the one door you trust. The singer asks for the gift of saaDhsangat, the Sangat.

Then comes comfort. Poor rahi-o hai sarab mai means the One fills everything, everywhere. Sagal gunaa biDh jaannad means the One knows how every person is doing, inside and out.

So the shelter is never far away. Think of a parent who can tell how your day went just by looking at your face. The One understands you completely, before you say a word.

A Question to Sit With

What feels safe about being with someone who understands you?
