I am wonderstruck, gazing upon the Wondrous Lord. The Merciful Lord is All-pervading everywhere.

I drink in the Invaluable Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Like the mute, I can only smile - I cannot speak of its flavor. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I look at the Wonderful One and I am simply struck with wonder — filled all the way up, nothing left over for words.

It is like tasting the sweetest thing there is and having no way to describe it. All you can do is smile, the way someone who cannot speak smiles when something wonderful lands on their tongue.

The deepest sweetness needs no words — the smile says it all.
The deeper layer

The image of the one who cannot speak tasting sweetness and only smiling is one of Gurbani's most beloved pictures of deep experience. The Amrit Naam, the nectar of the Name, is tasted directly; the smile says everything that words cannot. Wonder is treated as the truest response to the divine.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt something so good that a smile said more than words could?
