All Peace In The Name

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਇਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
khojat khojat ihai beechaari-o sarab sukhaa har naamaa.
Searching and searching, I have come to this realization: all peace and bliss are in the Name of the Lord.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲੇਖੁ ਮਥਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
kaho naanak tis bha-i-o paraapat jaa kai laykh mathaamaa. ||4||11||
Says Nanak, he alone receives it, upon whose forehead such destiny is inscribed. ||4||11||

In plain words

After searching and searching, I found one simple thing. Every peace I was looking for is in the Name.

Nanak says: the one who receives it is the one for whom it was written. It is a gift that was always meant to arrive.

After all the searching, the peace you wanted turns out to be a gift, not a prize.
The deeper layer

After all the searching, every peace turns out to be in the Name.

"Khojat khojat" means searching and searching. At the end he finds one simple thing: "sarab sukhaa har naamaa," all peace is in the Name of the One.

Then he says it comes to the one with laykh mathaamaa, what is written on the forehead. This is best heard as grace, a gift, and not a fixed fate. What comes is given, not earned like a prize.

Think of a surprise gift from someone who loves you. You did not win it. It was simply meant for you. The seeking and the grace meet in the same place.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you worked hard to find, only to realize it came as a gift?
