In plain words

The Word of the great ones is the finest song of all — it gently loosens the grip of pride.

Nanak says, after searching and searching, I found the home of peace: the Naam of the One, a place to rest.

The Guru's words set pride down and leave you lighter.
The deeper layer

The Guru's words have a special power: they help pride melt away.

The banee is the Word, the Guru's sacred verses. It is called the greatest mantar, a word held close to the heart. That is not because the sound is magic. It is because it maneh utaaran maan — it lifts pride off the mind. Think of taking off a heavy backpack after a long day. You stand up straighter and lighter.

Khoj lahi-o — after all the searching, Nanak found it. The sukh thaan, the place of peace, was inside the Name all along.

A Question to Sit With
