O Nanak, meeting with the Saints, the Lord is attained. The Lord's humble servant obtains the Presence of the Lord. ||4||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Please be kind to me, dear One. This is all I ask: the dust of the feet of the Sangat.

Nanak says: meet the saints, and you find the One. Your humble servant has met You, right here in Your presence.

The one thing worth asking for is a place in the Sangat.
The deeper layer

A simple prayer: let me be with the Sangat.

Maaga-o means "I ask." It is honest asking, like a child asking a parent. The wish is simple: the dust of the feet of the Sangat.

And the reason is given. Sant milai har paa-ee-ai: "meeting the saints, the One is found." It happens right in the Presence, raam hajoor. Think of a campfire on a cold night. You don't have to understand fire to get warm. You just sit close. This verse closes the hymn about the Sangat.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for one thing to grow into, what would it be?
