Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I am nothing on my own. What am I? You hold everything together.
Nanak says, I have run to Your shelter, Lord. Keep me safe, for the sake of Your saints.
Letting go of “it’s all on me” can feel like the deepest rest.
Hau naahee kichh — on my own I am nothing much — is not self-blame but honest trust: sabh tum hee kal dhaaree, it is You who hold everything together. Letting go of I-can-do-it-all is a kind of rest. The heart runs to saran, the shelter, and asks to be kept safe among all who love the One.
A Question to Sit With
Does it ever feel good to admit you don’t have to hold everything by yourself?
