Seeing the Unseen Within

parabh agam agochar ravi-aa sarab thaa-ee man tan alakh apaaree.
God is Inaccessible and Unfathomable, All-pervading everywhere, in all minds and bodies; He is Infinite and Invisible.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਤਬ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
gur kirpaal bha-ay tab paa-i-aa hirdai alakh lakhaaree. ||2||
When the Guru bebomes merciful, then the Unseen Lord is seen within the heart. ||2||

In plain words

The One is beyond reach and beyond figuring out. The One is everywhere at once, in every mind and body, endless and unseen.

When the Guru is kind, then that unseen One is seen, right inside my own heart.

The One too vast to see anywhere can be found right inside you.
The deeper layer

The One who cannot be seen is seen inside the heart.

Agam agochar means beyond reach and beyond the senses. Alakh means unseen and unknowable. The verse holds a beautiful puzzle. The One is too vast to be seen anywhere. Yet when the Guru is kind, gur kirpaal bhay, the One is seen within the heart: hirdai alakh lakhaaree.

Think of WiFi. It fills the whole house, but you can't see it anywhere. Then your phone lights up with a connection. Vastness and nearness turn out to be the same thing.

A Question to Sit With

How can something be everywhere and inside you at the same time?
