Standing up and sitting down, the mortal sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, when the Guru bestows even a tiny bit of His Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਭਈ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak jin ka-o nadar bha-ee hai tin kee paij savaaree. ||4||2||
O Nanak, those who are blessed by His Glance of Grace - He saves and protects their honor. ||4||2||

In plain words

Standing up, sitting down, all through an ordinary day, they sing the praises of the One — because a little grace touched them.

Nanak says: those the One looks upon with kindness, the One keeps safe and stands by their honor.

Grace turns even an ordinary day into a song.
The deeper layer

Praise can run all through an ordinary day.

Oothat baithat means standing up and sitting down. It means all through the day. Praise becomes a way of living, not a separate event. Think of a song you love that you hum while brushing your teeth, walking to school, and doing homework.

Nadar is the glance of grace. Paij savaaree means the One protects the honor of those who receive that grace. The verse ends full of grace: even a little of it turns a plain day into a song.

A Question to Sit With

What could you carry with you through a whole ordinary day?
