Resting on a Bed of Peace

You are deep and profound, calm and benevolent. What am I? Just a poor helpless being.
gur kirpaal naanak har mayli-o ta-o mayree sookh sayjree-aa. ||2||22||45||
The Merciful Guru Nanak has united me with the Lord. I lay on His Bed of Peace. ||2||22||45||

In plain words

You are deep and calm and generous, always giving; next to that, I am just a small being finding my way.

The kind Guru has brought Nanak home to the One, and now I rest easy, as if lying down at last on a soft bed of peace.

Feeling small next to something vast and kind is an invitation to rest.
The deeper layer

Gambheer, dheer, upkaaree — deep, steady, generous: three words for the vastness the small self leans into. The humility (ham ki-aa bapuray, what am I, a small being) is the trusting smallness of a child. And it resolves in rest: sookh sayjree-aa, the bed of peace, the image of a soul finally at ease in the One's nearness.

A Question to Sit With

When has feeling small next to something huge — the ocean, the stars — felt peaceful instead of scary?
