Moment by moment, instant by instant, your life is running out. The fool cannot understand this.

He does things which will not go along with him in the end. This is the lifestyle of the faithless cynic. ||2||

In plain words

Little by little, moment by moment, our time here quietly slips by — and it's easy to miss how precious each one is.

We can spend it all chasing things that won't come with us in the end. A heart that forgets the One does this.

Time slips by moment by moment — each one is more precious than it looks.
The deeper layer

Our time slips away moment by moment, so every moment is precious.

Til til pal pal means "bit by bit, moment by moment." A-oDh ghaatai means our time here grows shorter. Think of sand running through an hourglass. You hardly notice each grain, but they keep falling.

The old words call the person who misses this gavaar, a fool. It really means anyone who forgets how precious the moment is, and that can be any of us.

Saakat means someone cut off from the One. Such a heart spends its time on things that will not come along at the end. The point is not fear of time running out. It is noticing how precious each moment is, and spending it well.

A Question to Sit With

If today were precious, how would you want to spend it?
