This is Nanak's prayer: O Dear God, please let me serve the humble Saints. ||2||52||75||

In plain words

Everyone who ever found their way across, long ago or just now, crossed by one thing only — loving the One with their whole heart.

Nanak says, this is my one prayer: dear One, let me serve your humble saints.

Everyone who ever found their way across did it through love.
The deeper layer

Everyone who ever found their way across did it through love.

Puraatan navtan means "long ago and now." No one ever crossed by being clever or important. They crossed through bhagat bhaa-ay, loving devotion. Think of a baby learning to walk toward a parent's open arms. It isn't skill that gets them there. It is love pulling them forward.

Baynantee means a humble prayer. Nanak doesn't ask for a reward. He asks for sant jan sayvaa, the chance to serve holy people and be with them.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you could only ever reach through love, not by being clever?
