Higher Than the Highest

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਊਚ ਤੇ ਊਚੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਜਾਦ ॥
sabh tay ooch ooch tay oocho ant nahee marjaad.
He is the Highest of all, the Highest of the high; His celestial ecomony has no limit.
ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥੨॥੫੫॥੭੮॥
baran na saaka-o naanak mahimaa paykh rahay bismaad. ||2||55||78||
Nanak cannot even express His Glorious Grandeur; gazing upon Him, he is wonder-struck. ||2||55||78||

In plain words

The One is higher than everything, higher than the highest, past every edge and boundary you could try to draw.

Nanak says, I cannot find words big enough for that glory — I just look, and I am left amazed.

Some things are too wonderful for words — you just look and marvel.
The deeper layer

The One is higher than the highest, with no edge anywhere. Words run out, and only wonder is left.

Sabh tay ooch ooch tay oocho means higher than all, higher than the high. Ant nahee marjaad means no end, no boundary. Think of trying to count the stars on a clear night. After a while you stop counting and just stare.

Baran na saaka-o means I cannot describe it. Words give up before the One. What remains is bismaad, wonder. That wonder is the doorway back to Waheguru, the Name that itself means wonder — the awe of light.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so amazing that you could not explain it to someone else?
