Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Every living thing that breathes was handed its life by You. There is so much goodness in You that no list of words could ever finish naming it.
You are the One who loves everyone, who feeds and cares for everyone, the quiet support underneath every single heart — mine, and everybody else's too.
The One gives life and breath to everyone, with no one left out.
The verse widens from "me" to "all." Look at the names it uses. The One is the daataa, the Giver of soul and breath to every creature. The One is the preetam, the Beloved of all. The One is the partipaalak, who feeds and cares for all. And the One is the aaDhaar, the support under every heart.
Guru Arjan draws no line around who counts. The same care holds up every being. No family, group, or caste gets more of it than another. That is at the heart of Sikh teaching, said plainly.
Think of the air in a classroom. Every student breathes the same air. No one gets a special supply.
If everyone is cared for by the same One, how does that change the way you see a stranger?
