Please, give me a seat in the boat of the Holy; O Nanak, thus I shall cross over this terrifying world-ocean, and reach the other shore. ||2||58||81||

In plain words

No one can measure how great You are — You alone spread out this whole universe, and only You know its size.

Nanak says: seat me in the boat with the Guru's holy people, and carry me across the wide sea of the world to the far shore.

You were never meant to cross life's rough water alone.
The deeper layer

Life is like a wide, rough sea, and no one has to cross it alone.

First, the verse says no one can measure the One. The One alone spread out the whole universe.

Then comes a picture. The world is a bhav saagar, a big, choppy ocean. That is not to scare us. It is to say the crossing is real.

SaaDh naav means the boat of the holy. It is the Guru's people: holy people whose calm carries you when your own courage wobbles. Think of a team canoe. When your arms get tired, the others keep paddling.

The song began with "Who am I?" It ends with a humble request: please give me a seat with the holy.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people you would want in your boat when the water gets rough?
