Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 1
Verse 4 of 5

The One Who Serves Sees the One Everywhere

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਚਾਕਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
sayvaa karay so chaakar ho-ay.
One who serves the Lord is His servant.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
jal thal mahee-al rav rahi-aa so-ay. ||3||
The Lord is pervading and permeating the water, the land, and the sky. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one who truly serves grows close to the One, part of the quiet work of the world.

And then you begin to see: that One is spread all through the water, the land, and the sky — everywhere you look.

Serving with love opens your eyes to the One in everything.
The deeper layer

When we serve with love, we start to see the One everywhere.

The verse says: sayvaa karay so chaakar ho-ay — the one who does sayvaa, loving service, becomes truly close to the One. Then comes the gift of that closeness: jal thal mahee-al rav rahi-aa so-ay — the One fills the water, the land and the sky.

Think of helping plant a garden. After a few weeks of watering, you notice every sprout, every bug, every new leaf. Caring for something opens your eyes to it. Serving works the same way. The more we help, the more we notice the One all around us.

A Question to Sit With
