Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
The One watches over those who love Him, and has kept them safe through every age. A true lover is one who faces the Teacher and lets the old ego burn away in the Word.
When the ego is melted in the Word, that heart becomes dear to the One, and its speech turns true.
Day and night such hearts live their love, just as the Teacher has shown them. Their way of living is genuine and clear, and the True Name is what their hearts love. Those who live truth, and only truth, shine at the One's door.
bhagat janaa kee har raakhai — the One protects the devoted, jug jug, age after age: a note of safety and care running through history. so bhagat jo gurmukh hovai — a true lover is defined not by ritual but by facing the Teacher and letting haumai, the ego (the feeling of being a separate, walled-off self), burn away in the Word. haumai sabad jalaa-i-aa — the ego is not attacked but dissolved by understanding. bhagtaa kee chaal sachee — their walk, their way of living, is true and nirmal, spotless.
How can you tell what someone truly loves by watching the way they live?
