The Color That Never Fades

Soohee, Fourth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਙੁ ॥

The Lord's Name is the Love of the Lord. The Lord's Love is the permanent color.

When the Guru is totally satisfied and pleased, He colors us with the Lord's Love; this color shall never fade away. ||1||

In plain words

The Name is love, and this love is dyed in like the deepest red — the color that soaks all the way through and never washes out.

When the Guru's kindness brushes that color onto your heart, it stays. No rain, no time, nothing can wash it away.

Real love dyes the heart so deep that nothing can wash it out.
The deeper layer

Love for the Name is like the deepest red dye. Once it soaks in, it never washes out.

Har rany majeethai rany — the One's love is the majeeth color. Majeeth is madder root, a plant that gives the strongest, deepest red dye. It is the favorite picture of Raag Soohee, a raag whose name itself means "red."

Think of a T-shirt dyed so well that a hundred trips through the washing machine never fade it.

Gur tuthai har rang chaarhi-aa — when the Guru is pleased, the Guru puts this color on us. Fir bahurh na hovee bhany — and it is never undone again.

A Question to Sit With

What is something in you that time only makes stronger?
