The Guru, satisfied and pleased, taught me about the Lord, and my Sovereign Lord King met with me at once. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, let love for the Name take root inside you.

The moment the Guru's kindness opened the teaching to me, the One I was longing for was suddenly right there — no waiting, no distance.

When the heart is ready, the One you seek is already near.
The deeper layer

When the Guru's kindness lands, meeting the One happens right away.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the song. Mayray man har raam naam kar rany — "O my mind, love the Name."

Har bhayti-aa raa-o nisany — "the King met me at once." Nisany means without waiting, right then.

Think of a video call that has been ringing and ringing. The moment it connects, the face you miss is just there. When the Guru teaches you and grace lands, the Beloved is not far off. The meeting is now.

A Question to Sit With

Has something you waited a long time for ever arrived all at once?
