Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One Himself stepped in to finish the work of those who love Him.
The land is beautiful, the pool is beautiful, brimming with sweet, life-giving water; the whole task is complete, and every wish is filled.
Gladness rings out everywhere, and sorrows lift away. All the old scriptures sing the praises of the Perfect, Unfading One — who kept His promise, exactly as is His nature — so keep the Name close.
When people who love the One need help, the One shows up and finishes the job.
Santaa kay kaaraj aap khalo-i-aa — the One stood up to take care of the work of His people. Har kamm karaavan aa-i-aa — the One came to get it done.
Guru Arjan is singing about a sacred pool full of water. Dharat suhaavee taal suhaavaa — the land is beautiful, and the pool is beautiful. Vich amrit jal chhaa-i-aa — it is filled with amrit jal, nectar-water. It is a picture of grace filling a place that people built.
Think of a big school project that feels too hard, and then a loving parent sits down beside you and helps you finish. Jas vayd puraanee gaa-i-aa — the Vedas and Puranas, older holy books of India, are also named as singing the One's praise. They are welcomed as friends in the song, not rivals. The One kept the promise, and Nanak holds on to the Name.
When has help arrived just when a big task felt too much to finish alone?
