naanak gur parmaysar paa-i-aa jis parsaad ichh punee-ai. ||4||6||9||
Nanak has found the Guru, the Transcendent Lord; by His Grace, desires are fulfilled. ||4||6||9||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
Where the Perfect One is known and kept in mind, His story is told and heard every day.
Endless wonders unfold, and a soundless music rings; good people gather to think together on what is truly real, day after day.
Keeping the Name close, whatever weighed on the heart is washed away; there, coming and going come to rest, and the heart finds a home it need not leave again. Finding the Teacher, the One, every longing is fulfilled by grace.
Gathering to reflect on what is real, day after day, is itself a homecoming.
The deeper layer
This one pictures a place of daily sharing and deep calm.
Sant gosat nit hovai means good people hold gosat, a talk together about what is truly real, every day. The practice is shared thinking, not only thinking alone. Think of a family at dinner talking about a big question, each person adding a piece.
Anhad jhunkaaray means an anhad, unstruck, ringing. It is an inner music that no instrument plays, the sound of a settled community.
Tah janam na marnaa means "there is no birth and death there." It is a steadiness beyond the restless round of coming and going. This closes the set of pauris about the unshakable city.
A Question to Sit With
Who do you like to talk with about the big questions that really matter?
