It is the natural way of the Lord and Master to purify sinners; Nanak takes the Support of the Word of the Shabad. ||3||

In plain words

It was the One's own work, and the One did it — what could a person do on their own?

Those who love Him shine, singing His praises and proclaiming His endless victory; joy wells up, and we become true friends in good company.

The good of all the famous pilgrimage places, of every charity and kind deed and clean way of living — all of it is found right here, in this sacred water. For it is simply the One's nature to lift up anyone who has fallen, and the Word is my support.

It is simply the One's nature to lift up anyone who has fallen.
The deeper layer

It was the One's work, and the One did it. The good of every holy place is found in this sacred pool.

Jis kaa kaaraj tin hee kee-aa — the job belonged to the One, and the One did it. Maanas ki-aa vaychaaraa — what can a person do alone?

Athsath tirath are the sixty-eight famous pilgrimage places. Guru Arjan says all their good, along with charity and clean living, is found in this one pool made with love. He honors the wish that sends people on pilgrimage. He simply shows where its fruit is found: in the Name.

Think of friends who travel far to see the sea. Then one day you find the same joy on your own street, with people you love. Patit paavan birad su-aamee — the One's birad, true nature, is to lift up anyone who has fallen. That gives hope to everyone.

A Question to Sit With

What is a place close to home that means as much to you as any famous destination?
