naanak saran kirpaa niDh su-aamee vadbhaagee har har gaa-i-aa. ||4||1||11||
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of his Lord and Master, the treasure of mercy; by great good fortune, he sings the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||1||11||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
Searching and searching, I finally found the home of the One — the home that never moves.
I saw that everything else comes and goes, so I fixed my heart on the One instead.
The One never fades, and I am simply His; He is complete in every good thing and fills the heart's every real wish. All the old scriptures and quiet sages sing His praises — and by great good fortune, so do I.
After all the searching, the home that never moves is the One.
The deeper layer
khojat khojat nihchal so ghar paa-i-aa — searching and searching, I found the unmoving home: the long seeking ends in what does not change. sabh adhruv dithe, seeing all else as adhruv, unsteady, passing: the heart chooses the One. This closing shabad of Guru Arjan's Soohee chhants gathers the whole arc — everything passes, the One remains, and the fortunate heart sings.
