In plain words

They too are known as "satee," the faithful ones, who live gently and are content with what they have.

They serve their Beloved, and every day they rise early to hold the One in mind.

Devotion is a quiet, everyday faithfulness: gentle, content, steady.
The deeper layer

Devotion shows up in everyday goodness.

Guru Amar Das keeps giving the word satee its new meaning. bhee so satee-aa jaanee-an — they too are known as satee. It is not about one dramatic act. It is about how someone lives every day.

They live with seel and santokh. Seel means gentle, good character. Santokh means being content with what you have. sayvan saa-ee aapnaa — they serve their Master.

They rise early each day and hold the One in mind. The quiet hours before dawn are called amrit vela, the nectar time. Think of practicing an instrument for ten minutes every morning. Small and steady, day after day, is what faithfulness looks like.

A Question to Sit With

What small thing could you do faithfully every day that would slowly change you?
