Old age is their enemy, O Nanak; when they grow old, they waste away. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Teeth shine like bright, beautiful pearls, and eyes sparkle like jewels.
Nanak says: old age comes against them like an enemy; growing old, they wear away and die.
Enjoy what shines, but anchor in what doesn't fade.
ujal motee = teeth like pearls; jar vairee = old age as the enemy of the body's shine. The body's beauty is lovely and passing; the reminder is to anchor in what does not fade (the Naam), not to fear growing old.
A Question to Sit With
What is something about a person that gets more beautiful with age, not less?
