Two lamps, the sun and the moon, light up the fourteen markets of all the worlds.
There are as many traders as there are living beings.
The shops are open and the trading goes on; everyone who comes here will one day leave.
Dharma, the fair judge, works as the broker and stamps the approval.
Nanak says: those who earn the profit of the Naam are accepted.
When they come home, they are greeted with cheers, and they receive the honor of the True Naam.
du-ay deevay = two lamps, the sun and moon; chaudah hatnaale = fourteen markets, the worlds. Life as a marketplace where all are vanjaaray, traders who must depart. dharam dalaal = Dharma as the honest broker who stamps approval. naam laahaa parvaan = the profit of the Name is what is accepted; ghar aa-ay vajee vaadhaa-ee = returning home to congratulations — a hopeful, festive image, not a fearful judgment.
If your days were trades, what are you spending them buying?
