The Things We Can't Take With Us

Soohee:
ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਲ ਰਸੋਈ ॥
oochay mandar saal raso-ee.
You may have lofty mansions, halls and kitchens.
ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
ayk gharee fun rahan na ho-ee. ||1||
But you cannot stay in them, even for an instant, after death. ||1||

In plain words

You could have the grandest house, with tall rooms and a wonderful kitchen, filled with every nice thing.

And still, none of it is really something we can hold onto forever. It is good to enjoy what we have with a light and grateful heart — and to remember that the best treasures are the ones we carry inside.

Even the grandest things can't be held forever — the best treasures are carried inside.
The deeper layer

This one means that nothing we own is ours to keep forever.

oochay mandar saal raso-ee — tall houses, big halls and kitchens. These are the best things money can buy.

ayk gharee fun rahan na ho-ee — yet no one can stay in them for even a moment once their time here is over. A gharee is a short span of time.

This is not a sad teaching. It helps us hold things lightly. Think of a lovely hotel room on holiday. You enjoy it and feel grateful, but you know you will check out. Enjoy what you have with a grateful heart. The real treasure is the one we carry inside.

A Question to Sit With

What is a treasure you carry inside that no house could ever hold?
