The One Turned Toward Love

ਨਾਮਦੇਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਛੀਪਾ ਕਹੈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
naamday-a pareet lagee har saytee lok chheepaa kahai bulaa-ay.
Naam Dayv loved the Lord; the people called him a fabric dyer.
khatree baraahman pith day chhoday har naamday-o lee-aa mukh laa-ay. ||3||
The Lord turned His back on the high-class Kh'shaatriyas and Brahmins, and showed His face to Naam Dayv. ||3||

In plain words

Namdev loved the One with his whole heart. People knew him only as a simple cloth-printer.

The One turned from the powerful and the high-born, and showed its face to Namdev.

The One looks for love, not for labels — and finds it wherever it truly lives.
The deeper layer

Namdev was a simple cloth-printer, and it was to him that the One turned.

Naamday-a preet lagee har saytee — Namdev loved the One. Lok chheepaa kahai bulaa-ay — people just called him "the printer," the man who stamped designs on cloth.

Khatree braahman pith day chhoday — the One turned away from the Kshatriyas and Brahmins, the proud high-born groups of the time. Har naamday-o lee-aa mukh laa-ay — and turned to face Namdev.

This is not aimed at any group. It is aimed at rank without love. Think of a teacher who notices the student who cares, not the one who shows off. What the One values is love.

A Question to Sit With

If love is what matters most, how might that change who you look up to?
