All Four Ranks Bowed to Him

ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਚਮਾਰੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਇਕ ਗਾਇ ॥

Ravi Daas, the leather-worker, praised the Lord, and sang the Kirtan of His Praises each and every instant.
ਪਤਿਤ ਜਾਤਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਪਏ ਪਗਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
patit jaat utam bha-i-aa chaar varan pa-ay pag aa-ay. ||2||
Although he was of low social status, he was exalted and elevated, and people of all four castes came and bowed at his feet. ||2||

In plain words

Ravidas worked with leather, work the world looked down on. Yet he sang the praises of the One with every breath.

The world had ranked him low. But his love lifted him so high that people of every rank came and bowed at his feet.

What you love and how you live can lift you far above any label the world hands you.
The deeper layer

Ravidas was looked down on because of his work, but his love lifted him so high that everyone came to honor him.

Bhagat Ravidas worked with leather. In his time, people thought that work made you "low." But he sang the One's praises every moment.

Patit jaat utam bha-i-aa — the one counted low became high. Chaar varan pa-ay pag aa-ay — people of the chaar varan, all four ranks society was sorted into, came and bowed at his feet.

Think of the quiet kid whose kindness is so real that, one day, the whole school looks up to them. Devotion wipes away the old ladder of ranks. Love counts more than birth.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever seen someone earn deep respect that had nothing to do with their rank?
