Meditate, O My Mind

har har Dhi-aa-ay man mayray man Dhi-aa-ay har janam janam kay sabh dookh nivaaranhaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
So meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind. Meditate on the Lord, O mind; He is the Eliminator of all the pains of reincarnation. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O my mind, hold the One close. Turn to the One again and again, quietly, lovingly.

Every ache carried across all your days can melt away right here. This is where the heart is set down and rests.

Turning the mind toward the One is where old aches are set down.
The deeper layer

O my mind, remember the One, who takes away every pain.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the idea everything else turns on. Here the mind talks to itself: har har Dhi-aa-ay man mayray — O my mind, remember the One.

Janam janam kay sabh dookh are the pains gathered "birth after birth." Think of them as aches carried for a very long time, like a heavy backpack you forgot you were wearing. The One is nivaaranhaaraa, the One who takes them all away. In remembering, the backpack can finally be set down.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you set down a worry you have been carrying for a long time?
