Sing With Your Whole Being

govind gun gaa-ee-ai jee-o laa-ay satguroo naal Dhi-aan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe; focus your meditation on the True Guru. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sing the praises of the One who holds the whole universe, and sing with everything you are.

Let your attention rest with the Guru, the one who leads you from darkness into light.

Praise means most when your whole being is in it.
The deeper layer

Sing about the One with your whole heart.

This is the "Rahao," the pause line at the center of the shabad. Govind gun gaa-ee-ai jee-o laa-ay: sing the praises of Govind, the Sustainer of the universe, jee-o laa-ay, putting your whole soul into it.

Satguroo naal Dhi-aan: keep your Dhi-aan, your attention, with the Satguru, the True Guru.

Think of singing "Happy Birthday" to someone you love. You mean every word. That full heart is the whole point.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do with your whole heart, not just halfway?
