Verse 5 of 5

As You Move Me, So I Speak

jaytaa jee-o pind sabh tayraa tooN antarjaamee purakh bhagvaan.
My soul and body are totally Yours, Lord; You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, my Primal Lord God.
daasan daas kahai jan naanak jayhaa tooN karaa-ihi tayhaa ha-o karee vakhi-aan. ||4||4||11||
So speaks servant Nanak, the slave of Your slaves; as You make me speak, so do I speak. ||4||4||11||

In plain words

My whole self, body and soul, belongs to You, and You already know everything moving inside me.

I speak only as You move me to speak. Every word I offer is really coming from You in the first place.

Even the words of praise are the One's own gift moving through us.
The deeper layer

Everything I am belongs to the One, even my words.

Jaytaa jee-o pind sabh tayraa: my soul and body are all Yours. Toon antarjaamee: You are the antarjaamee, the One who knows what is inside every heart.

Jayhaa toon karaa-ihi tayhaa ha-o karee vakhi-aan: as You make me speak, so I speak. The Guru calls himself the servant of Your servants.

This is not about feeling small. It is about belonging. Think of a flute. The music is beautiful, but the breath comes from the one who plays it.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt that something good came through you rather than just from you?
