Which, which of Your Glorious Virtues should I sing and recount, Lord? You are my Lord and Master, the treasure of excellence.

I cannot express Your Glorious Praises. You are my Lord and Master, lofty and benevolent. ||1||

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Which of Your countless good qualities could I even begin to sing? You are the treasure where every excellence is kept.

I could never put Your greatness into words. You are so high and so kind, beyond anything I could describe.

Real praise often starts by admitting the One is beyond all our words.
The deeper layer

Guru Ram Das is saying: You have so many good qualities that I don't know where to start.

Tayray kavan kavan gun kahi kahi gaavaa means "which, which of Your good qualities should I sing?" He says "which" twice, like someone standing in front of a huge library who can't pick a first book. Gunee niDhaanaa means the treasure-house of every good quality.

So the praise starts with an honest confession. Nobody can ever finish praising the One. That is not a reason to stay quiet. It is the reason the song keeps going.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever loved something so much that words felt too small for it?
