Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The ones who love the One grow well and whole again, healthy right down to the heart.
Holding the One close through the Guru’s words, they are freed from the heaviest fever of all: the fever of ego (haumai, the feeling of being cut off and all on your own).
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It says those who love the One become well.
Har jan aarog bha-ay — the One's people become aarog, healthy. Which sickness is gone? Ha-umai rog, the sickness of ego. Ha-umai is the feeling that I am all on my own, cut off from everyone, the center of everything.
The cure is gur bachnee, the Guru's words. Think of a fever that makes everything about you: too hot, too tired, too cranky. When it breaks, you can see other people again. Remembering the One through the Guru's words breaks the fever of ego. That idea is the heart of this whole shabad.
When do you feel most connected to others, and when most cut off?
