ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
bha-i-o kirpaal satsang milaa-i-aa.
Becoming Merciful, He has united me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਬੂਝੀ ਤਪਤਿ ਘਰਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
boojhee tapat ghareh pir paa-i-aa.
The fire has been quenched, and I have found my Husband Lord within my own home.
ਸਗਲ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਹੁਣਿ ਮੁਝਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
sagal seegaar hun mujheh suhaa-i-aa.
I am now adorned with all sorts of decorations.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
kaho naanak gur bharam chukaa-i-aa. ||4||
Says Nanak, the Guru has dispelled my doubt. ||4||

In plain words

Then kindness arrived: I was brought into the good company of others who love the One, and the burning restlessness in me was quieted.

I found the Beloved inside my own home all along. Now everything about me feels bright and right — the teacher cleared away my last doubt.

What you search the whole world for is often waiting at home inside you.
The deeper layer

This one means the Beloved is found at home, inside us.

bha-i-o kirpaal satsang milaa-i-aa — being kind, the One brings me into satsang, the company of people who love the truth. There the burning longing is cooled. Boojhee tapat means the fire is put out.

ghareh pir paa-i-aa — I found my Beloved in my own home. This answers the whole search. What I looked for all over the world was inside me.

Now everything about me feels bright, like getting ready for a celebration. kaho naanak gur bharam chukaa-i-aa — says Nanak, the Guru has cleared away my doubt. The feeling that the One was far away is gone.

A Question to Sit With

Where might you look for something you have been searching for far away?
