What virtues and excellences of Yours should I cherish and contemplate? I am worthless, while You are the Great Giver.

I am Your slave - what clever tricks could I ever try? This soul and body are totally Yours||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Which of Your endless good qualities could I ever hold and treasure? My hands are empty, and You are the Great Giver of everything.

I belong to You — what clever move could I possibly make on my own? This life and this body are already Yours.

You come to the Giver with open hands, not a full bag of achievements.
The deeper layer

mohi nirgun kay daataaray — the honest recognition of having nothing of one's own to bring, met not with shame but with openness before the Giver. ih jee-o pind sabh thaaray — even the self that would try to earn something is already a gift. Self-abasement is turned here into empty-handed trust.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you have that you did not earn, but were simply given?
