Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 29
Verse 4 of 5

My Heart Longs for You

ki-aa sayv kamaava-o ki-aa kahi reejhaava-o biDh kit paava-o darsaaray.
What service can I perform? What should I say to please You? How can I gain the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan?
mit nahee paa-ee-ai ant na lahee-ai man tarsai charnaaray. ||3||
Your extent cannot be found - Your limits cannot be found. My mind longs for Your Feet. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

What service could I do? What words could I say to bring You joy? How could I ever earn the sight of You?

No one can measure how vast You are, or find where You end — and still my heart aches for Your presence.

You cannot measure the One, but you can still long for it with all your heart.
The deeper layer

mit nahee paa-ee-ai ant na lahee-ai — the One is immeasurable, without end. The verse holds two truths at once: I cannot reach You by effort, and my heart longs anyway. The longing is not defeated by the vastness; it is deepened by it.

A Question to Sit With

Can you love something you will never fully understand? What?
