I beg with persistence to receive this gift, that the dust of the Saints might touch my face.

The Guru has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; reaching out with His Hand, God has delivered him. ||4||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I keep asking, boldly and persistently, for just one gift: to be humble enough to honor the good people around me.

Kindness was poured over me, and a steadying hand reached out and carried me through.

The best thing to ask for is a humble, grateful heart.
The deeper layer

mukh laagai sant raynaaray — the gift asked for is humility, the dust of the Saints touching one's face; the highest thing to beg for is a lowered, grateful heart. prabh haath day-ay nistaaray — the reaching hand is grace completing what effort could not.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone good whose example you would like to learn from?
