Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 3
Verse 3 of 6

What You Carry Inside Is What Brings You Home

ਸਾਜਨ ਚਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
saajan chalay pi-aari-aa ki-o maylaa ho-ee.
My beloved friends have departed; how will they meet the Lord?
ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੰਠੜੀਐ ਮੇਲੇਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
jay gun hoveh ganth-rhee-ai maylaygaa so-ee. ||2||
If they have virtue in their pack, the Lord will unite them with Himself. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Loved ones set out on the journey home. How will they come close to the One?

Whatever goodness they have gathered and carry with them — that is what gently brings them near.

The goodness you carry inside is what brings you close to the One.
The deeper layer

saajan chalay pi-aari-aa — beloved companions set out; how will they draw near? jay gun hoveh ganth-rhee-ai, if virtue is tied in their bundle, the One unites them. What you carry inside is the passport home.

A Question to Sit With

What good things would you want to carry with you wherever you go?
