Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
We truly begin to receive something real only when we grow humble — as low and giving as the dust everyone walks on.
And the Name settles into the heart that has been quietly helped to understand.
The gift arrives when the heart grows humble enough to hold it.
This Rahao closes the first shabad. ta-o kichh paa-ee-ai ja-o ho-ee-ai raynaa — receiving begins with becoming raynaa, dust: humility as the doorway. jisahi bujhaa-ay tis naam lainaa — understanding itself is a gift, grace making the first move, not a prize for effort.
A Question to Sit With
When has being humble opened a door that pride would have kept shut?
