In plain words

When I keep You in mind, again and again, I feel truly alive.

Loving You feels like tending to Your very feet with the greatest care, and being nourished by that closeness.

Keeping what you love in mind makes you feel truly alive.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: remembering You is what keeps me alive.

Simar simar taa ka-o ha-o jeevaa means "remembering You again and again, I live." Remembering is not a chore here. It is like breathing.

Then comes a picture of deep love and humility. Charan kamal... Dho-ay Dho-ay peevaa means "I wash Your lotus feet and drink that water." In old India, washing the feet of an honored guest was the humblest way to show love. Think of a grandchild bringing a glass of water to a grandparent, glad just to be close. Being near the One is itself the food that keeps us going.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that makes you feel most alive when you do it?
