Setting Down What Weighs Me

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਤਜਾਰੀ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh moh tajaaree.
I have renounced sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਸੁਚਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
darirh naam daan isnaan suchaaree. ||3||
I have enshrined the Naam within myself, with charity, true cleansing and righteous conduct. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have let go of the heavy things I used to carry — grabbing, anger, greed, and clinging — and set them gently down.

In their place I keep the Name close, along with giving to others, honest living, and a clean and caring way of being.

Setting down what weighs me makes room for what lifts me.
The deeper layer

kaam kroDh lobh moh tajaaree — the four restless drives are released. darirh naam daan isnaan — the Name enshrined, joined to daan (giving) and isnaan (inner cleansing). Letting go and taking up are one motion.

A Question to Sit With

What is one heavy feeling you could practice setting down?
