kaho naanak ih tat beechaaree.
Says Nanak, I have contemplated this essence of reality;
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੮॥
raam naam jap paar utaaree. ||4||12||18||
chanting the Name of the Lord, I am carried across. ||4||12||18||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
After all my thinking and searching, this is the simple heart of it that I have found.
Keeping the Name of the One in mind, I am carried safely across the wide waters of life.
The whole search distills to one simple thing worth holding.
ih tat beechaaree — the tat (essence, the distilled truth) has been contemplated. raam naam jap paar utaaree — remembering the Name, one is carried paar (across). The closing signature ||4||12||18|| marks this as the eighteenth in the running set.
