Where Pain Lets Go

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
gur kay charan kamal man Dhi-aa-ay.
Meditate within your mind on the Lotus Feet of the Guru.
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dookh darad is tan tay jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Pain and suffering shall leave this body. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Rest your mind at the feet of the teaching, the way you might set a heavy bag down at last.

When you do, the aches and hurts you have been carrying begin to loosen and leave your body.

Setting your mind down in a safe place lets the aches loosen.
The deeper layer

gur kay charan kamal man Dhi-aa-ay — meditate on the lotus feet. dookh darad is tan tay jaa-ay — pain and darad (ache) leave this body. The Pause line naming the shabad’s promise.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or what do you do, when you need to set down a hard feeling?
