Asking Only To Be Near The Good

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh deen da-i-aalaa.
Please be Merciful, O God, O Merciful to the meek.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੩॥
naanak maagai sant ravaalaa. ||4||17||23||
Nanak begs for the dust of the Saints. ||4||17||23||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Be kind to me — I know I am small and often stumble, and I lean on Your gentleness.

All I really ask for is to stay humbly near the good and wise, learning from them.

Sometimes the best thing to ask for is simply to stay near the good.
The deeper layer

kar kirpaa parabh deen da-i-aalaa — mercy of the deen dayaal (kind to the humble). naanak maagai sant ravaalaa — begging only for the ravaal (dust) of the Saints. Humility as the whole request. ||4||17||23||.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for one thing to help you grow, what would it be?
