Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 47
Verse 4 of 5

A Fortress That Cannot Be Shaken

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਣ ਗੜ ਕੋਟ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥
har charan saran garh kot hamaarai.
The Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet is my fortress and battlement.
ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਜਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਬਿਦਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
kaal kantak jam tis na bidaarai. ||3||
The Messenger of Death, the torturer, cannot demolish it. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The shelter of the One is like a strong fortress with high walls around me.

Inside it, I am safe — nothing, not even my biggest fears, can shake those walls.

There is a shelter inside you that fear cannot break down.
The deeper layer

har charan saran garh kot hamaarai — the shelter as garh (fort) and kot (rampart). SSK’s “Messenger of Death, the torturer, cannot demolish it” is rendered as unshakeable safety — even the largest fear cannot breach the walls.

A Question to Sit With

Where is your safest place, and what makes it feel that way?
