Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 48
Verse 4 of 5

Giving My Whole Self

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਜੀਉ ਅਰਪਾਹਾ ॥
man tan paraan jee-o arpaahaa.
I dedicate my mind, body, breath of life and soul to God.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਕਟਾਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
har simar simar maan moh kataahaaN. ||3||
Remembering the Lord in meditation, I have eradicated pride and emotional attachment. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I offer up all of me — my mind, my body, my breath, my very life — to the One.

And as I keep the One in mind, pride and clinging loosen their grip and fall away.

Giving your whole self to something good loosens the grip of pride.
The deeper layer

man tan paraan jee-o arpaahaa — offering man, tan, praan, jee-o (mind, body, breath, soul). maan moh kataahaaN — cutting away maan (pride) and moh (attachment). Total offering dissolving ego.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you give yourself to so fully that you forget yourself?
