Verse 4 of 5

When Trouble Loses Its Grip

ਸੋਗ ਰੋਗ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
sog rog bipat at bhaaree.
Sorrow, disease and the most terrible calamities
ਦੂਰਿ ਭਈ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
door bha-ee jap naam muraaree. ||3||
are removed by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sorrow, sickness, and heavy hard times can weigh on anyone.

But keeping the One in mind, their grip loosens, and they slowly lose their power to crush you.

Hard things stay hard, but they do not have to have the last word.
The deeper layer

sog rog bipat at bhaaree — sog (sorrow), rog (illness), bipat (calamity). door bha-ee jap naam muraaree — put at a distance by remembering the Name. Not denial of hardship, but the loosening of its grip.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you when sorrow or sickness is weighing you down?
