Verse 3 of 5

You Live Close To Those You Love

ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪੁ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
jeevan roop simran parabh tayraa.
Your meditation and remembrance is life-giving, God.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
jis kirpaa karahi baseh tis nayraa. ||2||
You dwell near those upon whom You show mercy. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Keeping You in mind is itself life-giving — it wakes something up in me.

And You live closest to the ones You pour Your kindness on, near as a heartbeat.

The One lives nearest to the heart that turns toward it.
The deeper layer

jeevan roop simran parabh tayraa — Your simran (remembrance) is jeevan roop (the very form of life). jis kirpaa karahi baseh tis nayraa — You dwell nayraa (near) those You bless with kirpa. Nearness as the shape of grace.

A Question to Sit With

Who feels closest to you — and what makes that closeness real?
