Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 6
Verse 5 of 5

A Life Without the Name Has Nothing to Trade

I would sell this body, if someone would only purchase it.
naanak kamm na aavee jit tan naahee sachaa naa-o. ||4||5||7||
O Nanak, that body is of no use at all, if it does not enshrine the Name of the True Lord. ||4||5||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I would gladly give my whole self over to whatever holds the One.

Because a life with no room in it for the True Name has nothing really worth trading — the Name is what gives it worth.

What makes a life truly valuable is the One living inside it.
The deeper layer

ih tan vaychee — I would trade my whole self for what holds the One; for kamm na aavee jit tan naahee sachaa naa-o, a life with no room for the True Name has nothing of real worth. The Name is what gives a life its value.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel your life has real meaning?
