Where My Fears Melt

ਸੇਵੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
sayvee satgur bhaa-ay naam niranjanaa.
So serve the True Guru with love, through the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨਾ ॥੩॥
tuDh bhaavai tivai rajaa-ay bharam bha-o bhanjnaa. ||3||
As it pleases You, so by Your Will, You destroy my doubts and fears. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I turn toward the teaching with love, holding the pure Name close, letting it clear and steady me.

It is Your Will. As You please, You break my doubts and fears.

Fear loosens its grip when I stop fighting the flow and trust it.
The deeper layer

This verse says that doubts and fears melt when we serve with love and trust the One's Will.

Sayvee satgur bhaa-ay naam niranjanaa: I serve the True Teacher with love, through the niranjan Name. Niranjan means spotless, with no stain at all.

Tudh bhaavai tivai rajaa-ay bharam bha-o bhanjnaa: as it pleases You, by Your rajaa, Your Will, You break apart doubt and fear. Rajaa is the way the One's Will flows through everything.

Think of floating in a pool. Thrash around and you sink. Lie back and trust the water, and it holds you up. Peace comes from moving with the One, not from trying to control everything.

A Question to Sit With

What is a fear that got smaller once you stopped fighting it?
